The Bell Ringers' Collect

Cathedral Church of St Mary Society of Change Ringers
A Form of Prayer for use in the Belfry of St Mary’s Cathedral Edinburgh

The Priest, or, in their absence, the Senior Member of the Guild of Ringers shall say:

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen
V.  Cleanse Us O Lord
R. And keep us undefiled
Our Father, which art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for Thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen
V. Praise ye the Lord.
R. The Lord’s name be praised.
V. Praise Him upon the well-tuned cymbals.
R. Praise Him upon the loud cymbals.

Lord of all power and might, who hast, of Thy goodness, given unto us the strength, the understanding, and the will to do this service in Thy name, vouchsafe, we beseech Thee, to accept, at our hands, this sacrifice of praise to Thy honour and glory, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Then shall be said one or both of the Collects following:

Shed abroad, O Lord, in our hearts, and in the hearts of those to whom the sound of these bells shall come, the manifold gifts of Thy Holy Spirit – the graces of Justice, Humility, Temperance and Patience, of Devotion and Holy Fear, of Courage, of Peace and Joy, of Faith, Hope and Charity; and grant that they may, in our lives, bring forth the fruits of good works, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Or This

O Heavenly Father we humbly beseech Thee that the sound of these bells, rung in Thy name, may stir into good the hearts of all that hear them. May the heedless be warned, the downcast be cheered, and Thy faithful servants strengthen and made glad, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

On the conclusion of the service, the ringing shall commence forthwith.
